HSCS LEGO Program

We are thrilled to begin our third year with the FIRST LEGO League Program.  In our very first year our students finished with one first and two second place awards at the regional qualifier and a first and third place award at the state final.  The FIRST LEGO League Program is a powerful way to engage students in science, math, and technology.  For more information about FIRST LEGO League Program, visit the web sites listed below.

This years project is all about making the smart moves and choices while using the many different forms of transportation. If you look below there is some information about this years teams and their  projects!

2009 HSCS LEGO Camp:
HSCS LEGO Camp:    As a fundraiser, our sixth grade class host
ed and lead the HSCS SMART MOVES LEGO Camp for 4th and 5th grade students.  We must limit this camp to 24 participants. Each campers learned to program the LEGO robot using ROBLAB software.  Campers also explored many of the dynamics of transportation.

Earth Friendly Coffee Fundraiser:  The Holy Spirit 6th graders are proud to sell Earth Friendly Coffee and help the worldwide efforts for social justice.  Earth Friendly Coffee is a participant in the Catholic Relief Services Fair Trade organization.  Earth Friendly Coffee visits remote coffee growing communities and works with small farmers who often live in extreme poverty.  These small farms produce wonderful coffee and by paying a “fair trade” price all of us who purchase the coffee can make a difference in the lives of these poor rural farmers.  The coffee is sold in 1lb bags for $15 per bag.  The red foil packages come with our Holy Spirit Label with information about the Earth Friendly Company.
